Frequently Asked Questions
Lenses & Prescription
The lens index number (1.50, 1.56, 1.591, 1.60, 1.61, 1.67, or 1.74) refers to the degree of refraction the lens provides. This means how much the light that enters the lens is refracted (bent) as it passes through the lens. Lens Index is also related to the thickness of the lens. The higher the index, the thinner the lens will be.
All Aoolia lenses are advanced lenses that have multiple coatings and functions: UV protection function blocks the ultraviolet (UV) rays and thus protects your eye from the harmful light. Anti-scratch hard coating is much harder and more resistant to scratch, and therefore has greater durability. Anti-Reflective coating reduces glare, reflections, and halos around lights at night, improving the vision and the appearance of your glasses. Water-resistant coating repels dirt and water, making it easier to clean. Oleophobic coating protects the lenses, improves smoothness, and reduces fingerprints. Besides, we offer the following coatings to upgrade your lenses: Anti-fog Coating helps prevent your lenses from fogging up. The anti-fog coating is on both sides of the lenses. Anti-Glare Coating reduces glare, reflections, and halos, and filter various strong lights. Mirror Coating is a colored reflective optical coating on the outside of the lenses to make them appear like small mirrors. You can choose different tints of the mirror coating. It decreases the amount of light passing through the tinted lens by a further 10-60%, especially useful for occasions of sand, water, snow, and higher altitudes. Photochromic Coating makes lenses dark when exposed to the sunlight and change to clear when the wearer is indoors. Tint is a permanent color added to your lenses, making your glasses become a pair of prescription sunglasses.
We provide bifocal lenses and progressive lenses. Start by selecting a frame with a height over 30mm to enable the function of bifocal or progressive lenses and then input your prescription as requested. Please note bifocal/progressive lenses are needed when there is ADD in your prescription.
Single vision lenses refer to lenses that have only one use, to see objects in the distance, to see intermediate like computer or phone, or to see near for reading (reading glasses), while bifocals/progressives is a type of prescription that can be used to correct both near and farsight requirements. This means you can see your whole field of vision without switching between multiple pairs of glasses.
Frame and Eyewear Care
> Full-rim glasses, especially in the nerd-chic look, are very popular. They are generally more durable than half-rim or rimless frames. If your Rx is too strong for half-rim or rimless glasses, full-rim would be your option. > Half-rim frames are great for people with slim faces. They show more of your face than full-rim frames, and are more durable than rimless glasses. > Rimless glasses are great for people who will treat their glasses delicately, and who want their glasses to be practically invisible on their face.
Titanium frames are very popular because they are lightweight, durable, strong, and corrosion-resistant. Titanium frames can be made in a range of different styles, from modern to classic. They are also hypoallergenic, and they retain their shape better than other metals as they flex when a force is applied. TR is referred to as plastic titanium. TR frames are lightweight and resistant to impacts and high temperature. It comes in a range of colors and won't release any chemical residues. However, it is a little less durable than metal and may fade, and lose strength over time. Acetate is a nylon-based plastic, which means it's very strong and lightweight. Acetate comes in many different colors, with a high, rich luster and is produced in high quality, sandwiched sheets. The frame is stamped out from these sheets and requires handcrafting to attain its final shape and appearance. With their wide range of colors and glossy finish, acetate frames combine hard wearing durability with stylish good looks. Metal is the most widely used material to make eyeglass frames. Many people opt for metal frames for their malleability and resistance to corrosion. Metal frames provide a sleek, modern appearance. Many are lightweight with adjustable nose pads.
When purchasing single vision eyeglasses, wearers with higher prescription-strength should be aware that a large frame with a wider lens is not recommended while smaller and narrower lens width will contribute to a thinner edge, lighter weight and greater comfort. a. Applying higher index lenses (1.61 indexes and above) can solve the problem of having a thick edge on the Negative lens or a thick center of the Positive lens. These higher index lenses are not only thinner and lighter but being aspheric will effectively perfect your vision effect and wearing comfort. b. For the farsighted wearers (There is "+" in front of SPH value) who want to select the higher index lens above the 1.61 index, please avoid choosing big frame with wide lens because the higher index positive lens is with a smaller diameter (55mm) which might be insufficient to be polished based on the frame with wild lens, the frame with the lens width of 50mm or shorter is recommended. c. For the wears that have a comparatively small PD (the distance between your pupils is less than 58mm), please pay more attention to the total width of the size as a larger frame may not match your PD. A smaller frame with a lens width of 50mm or lower should be considered as the first choice in order to make sure the accuracy of your prescription.
The first numbers are typically the manufacturer’s style number and a color code. The three numbers with “-” refer to the dimensions of the frame. These numbers are the measurement, in millimeters, of the lens width, nose bridge width, and temple arm length.
