Multifocal Glasses
Multifocal glasses are eyeglasses whose lenses carry more than one focusing power, so a single pair covers more than one viewing distance. 'Multifocal' is the umbrella term. It covers bifocals and trifocals, which have visible dividing lines, and no-line progressive lenses, which blend between zones without a line. In the United States, the no-line type is what most shoppers mean when they say multifocals. This page covers multifocal eyeglasses only, not multifocal contact lenses.
The Frame Depth Rule: Why 28 mm Is Aoolia's Cutoff,On a no-line multifocal lens, the zones are stacked vertically. The upper part of the lens carries the distance power, the lower part carries the close-up power, and a corridor runs between them. That layout needs vertical room. The measurement that supplies it is lens height, also written as the B measurement: the distance from the top of the lens opening to the bottom, in millimetres.
A shallow frame does not leave enough vertical space for the lower zone. Aoolia therefore applies a fixed cutoff before a frame is listed on this page.Every frame on this page carries its label on the product card, and the exact lens height in millimetres appears in the measurement block on each product page. If you already own a pair you like, measure its lens opening top to bottom and compare. One practical consequence: deep rectangles, squares and aviators clear the 32 mm mark far more often than shallow cat-eyes or narrow ovals. If a style you like is not on this page, its lens height is usually the reason.

Multifocal Glasses: Common Questions
Are multifocal glasses the same as progressives?
Not quite. Progressives are one type of multifocal. Multifocal is the broader category, and progressives are the no-line version of it. Bifocals and trifocals are also multifocals, but they have visible dividing lines.
What lens height do multifocal glasses need?
Aoolia lists a frame on this page only when its lens height reaches 28 mm. Frames at 32 mm and above are labelled Full-Depth Fit. Frames between 28 mm and 31 mm are labelled Short-Corridor and pair with a short-corridor lens design.
How do I find a frame's lens height?
Open any product page and read the measurement block. Lens height is listed in millimetres alongside lens width, bridge width and temple length. You can also measure the lens opening on a pair you already own, top edge to bottom edge.
Can I preview multifocal frames before ordering?
Frames tagged AR Try-On can be previewed on your own face from the product page. Deeper frames sit differently from shallow ones, so previewing is worth doing on this category.
